Issues New Postage Stamp Honoring Sept 11 Victims
The
Romanian Postal Administration (RPA) has issued a new commemorative
postage stamp to honor the victims of the September 11 terrorist
attacks in the United States. The stamp was officially presented
in a ceremony held on Friday at the American Cultural Center
in Bucharest. U.S. Ambassador Michael Guest and Communications
Minister Dan Nica spoke at the event. The stamp is part of the
"United We Stand" program, made up of countries who
are acting to honor the victims of September 11.
Ambassador
Guest noted, "After the tragedy of September 11, we, at
the American Embassy, have been very appreciative of the support
that we have gotten here in Romania. I'm referring to the official
cooperation that has been offered by the Romanian government
and also to the unofficial expressions of understanding that
have been offered to us by all kinds of Romanians. The 'United
We Stand' stamp issue is one example of this solidarity."
Communication
Minister Dan Nica said: "The launching of this postage
stamp, 'United We Stand,' is an expression of the solidarity
between our two peoples, Romanian and American, and underlines
the strength with which the two countries oppose acts of terrorism.
This is a way to record into history, and fix in the consciousness
of the people of the world, this event, which was not only a
dramatic moment in United States history, but also an attitude,
a reaction which is proper to us Romanians, about any acts of
unjustified aggression."
According
to Romfilatelia, the special division of the RPA which works
in the philatelic trade, "This issue is part of the Romanian
people's attachment to the struggle against terrorism and to
the democratic values promoted by the United States. We want
to pay tribute to the innocent victims of September 11, 2001,
and the artwork of this issue shows the links between Romania
and the United States of America in this common remembrance."
