Dedication
Day
American
International School of Bucharest
Building for the Future
The American International School of Bucharest celebrated the
dedication of its new campus in Judetul Ilfov on April 26, 2002.
Many distinguished guests from the Romanian Government, the
diplomatic and business communities joined in the festivities
with all AISB students and parents. In honor of the occasion
the school hosted several special events.
The
American International School of Bucharest is a private educational
institution accredited by the New England Association of Schools
and Colleges and by the European Council of International Schools.
It was founded in 1962 by the United States Embassy, and after
almost forty years of being located in the heart of Bucharest,
has now settled into its own purpose-built facility on its Pipera-Tunari
campus. AISB provides its students with the highest international
standards of education and facilities for study, sports, music,
drama - and more.
AISB
is a member of the International Baccalaureate Organization,
the European Council of International Schools, the Central and
Eastern European Schools Association, and the College Board
and Educational Records Bureau. The International Baccalaureate
(IB) is at the basis of the AISB curriculum. Graduating students
may earn either an American Diploma or the prestigious IB Diploma,
both of which are recognized by the Romanian Ministry of Education.
Additionally, AISB offers the Middle and Primary Years Programmes
(MYP and PYP), placing the school among only a few institutions
in the world that offer all three IB programmes.
The
international nature of AISB comes from the diversity of its
more than 400 students from Romania and around the world and
from an equally diverse teaching staff. Over forty nationalities
are represented on this multicultural campus.
A
Commitment to the Community
Living and studying in Romania is enriching. The School community,
therefore, believes that it is important to enrich the Romanian
community whenever possible. Its commitment to community service
is strong and is a significant part of school life at AISB.
Students, faculty, and staff spend over 5,000 hours each year
teaching, talking, building, and caring for others. Their efforts
take them to hospitals, orphanages, and building sites as well
as into people's homes. The tradition of giving back to the
community is very much alive at AISB.
Last
year, the school hosted the first "Terry Fox 10-kilometer
Run" to be held in Romania, thus raising $6,000 for cancer
research at the Institut Oncologic "Ion Chiricuta."
Runners of a wide range of ages and nationalities gathered at
the new campus to help focus attention on this worthy cause.
Open
Door Policy
Students between the ages of 3 and 17 are welcome to apply for
admission to AISB. The degree of English proficiency required
depends on the entering grade of the student, and all instruction
is in English.
