TWO US SENATORS VISIT US AND ROMANIAN MILITARY AT MIHAIL KOGALNICEANU
 |
US
Senators Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Larry Craig of Idaho
visited the Romanian military leadership and American military
personnel at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base near Constanta
on Sunday, as part of a 4 day visit to Romania sponsored
by the Congressional Coalition on Adoptions. US Ambassador
Michael Guest and the Senators toured the medical facilities
on base, met for lunch with US military personnel, and saw
the base's "morale center." |
|
The
Senators and the Ambassador also addressed the US military
group at lunch, telling them how America supports the troops
and are grateful for the job they're doing. "We're all
so proud of you, and we all want you to know that we support
you and the great work you're all doing," said Senator
Landrieu. |
Earlier
in the day in Constanta, the two Senators toured Casa
Speranta and the Romanian-American Childrens' Center,
both USAID-sponsored institutions, and the AIDS "New
Life" Center, a private faith-based center specializing
in the care of children infected with HIV-AIDS.
During
their visit to Romania, the two Senators, accompanied
by a delegation representing the Congressional Coalition
on Adoptions, are spending most of their time meeting
with officials involved in childcare, and touring childcare
centers. They have also met with President Iliescu and
other top Romanian Government officials.
