AWARDS CEREMONY OF
THE YOUNG SCIENTIST PROGRAM
The
United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission
to Romania, Ministry of Agriculture Food and Forestry (MoAFF)
and World Bank are pleased to announce the Awards Ceremony of
the 2002-2003 Young Scientist Program.
The
program is co-sponsored by the USAID, through the "Agribusiness
Development and Policy Support Project (ADAPS)" and MoAFF,
through the "Agricultural Support Services Program"
financed by the World Bank. During 2002-2003 the program provided
10 scholarships at Iowa State University in US, for highly talented
young agricultural scientists.
This
type of partnership exemplifies the coordination of donors and
the active participation and involvement of the Romanian government.
Such coordination and program development reflects shared values
in exchanging the latest scientific development and encouraging
Romania to use science as a tool to become more internationally
competitive.
The
program offers highly skilled young Romanian scientists an opportunity
to work with American agricultural leaders from Iowa State University.
It also provides hands-on learning opportunities for the Romanian
visitors to the U.S. in understanding the latest developments
in agricultural science in areas such as farm management, marketing,
biotechnology, international trade and policy.
The
new knowledge will enable the participants to respond promptly
to the challenges faced by Romanian agriculture and equip them
with necessary tools of perspective and scientific application
as they embark on careers and become leaders in their professional
areas.
The
Young Scientists Program Awards Ceremony will be hosted on April
23rd, 10:00 - 13:00 hrs, at the Ministry of Agriculture, 24 Carol
I Blvd.,
room# 19.
The
Secretary of State Valeriu Steriu and USAID Mission Director,
Denny Robertson will give opening remarks, followed by presentations
about the program achievements and the award of graduation diplomas
to the Romanian fellows who have successfully completed one month
fellowships at Iowa State University.
A
press conference will conclude the event.
