U.S. EMBASSY YOUTH PROGRAM BEGINS FOURTH YEAR
The US Embassy in Bucharest is pleased to invite all 15 to 17 year-old high school students, as well as teachers, to apply for participation in the SEEYLI Program, which is now in its fourth year.
The program aims at developing civic responsibility among young people, promoting respect between and among members of local and regional communities, and increasing mutual understanding and interaction between SE-European and American teenagers. The main component of the SEEYLI Program is high school students' and teachers' participation in a one-month summer camp in the United States. The camp will conduct a number of activities geared to accomplish the goals cited above, specifically: workshops, debates, community service projects, and visits to governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as historic/cultural sites. The camp is funded by the ECA Bureau of the State Department in cooperation with the Open Society Institute (OSI) and the International Debate Education Association (IDEA).
In Romania, the US Embassy works with the Romanian Debate, Oratory and Rhetoric Association (ARDOR), in notifying students and teachers of this opportunity and selecting students and teachers for a weekend of activities in Bucharest where final candidates for the summer school will be named for the US-based summer camp. High school students and teachers who are interest in participating in the program are invited to contact Ms. Oana Munteanu, Executive Director of ARDOR, (tel. 021-250-6534, fax 021-250-9035) and to also visit the following website: http://www.idebate.org/seeyli .
The application deadline is 12/01/2003.
