U.S.
Ambassador Michael Guest Comment On Adrian Nastase,
The Romanian Prime Minister's Visit To U.S.A.
"Prime
Minister Nastase's trip to the U.S. will build upon, and solidify,
the very positive partnership our two countries have established
in the fight against terrorism. That fight will be one of the
principal topics of discussion, of course. Discussions also
will focus on Romania's preparations for possible NATO membership,
and on the Prime Minister's future privatization and economic
reform plans.
I'm particularly pleased that several important commercial agreements
will be finalized during the visit, bringing substantial new
U.S. investment to Romania. There's considerable American corporate
interest in steps the Prime Minister intends to take to tackle
corruption and improve the business climate here. While in Washington
and New York, he'll meet with a number of American companies
to discuss these steps and outline further areas of potential
investment. I very much hope these contacts will bear fruit."
